A quantity of vaccines, worming products and animal health supplements was taken and are presumed to be being offered for unofficial sale in the UK and Ireland. But there is a concern that unless they have been stored correctly, their efficacy may have been detrimentally affected. Many vaccines and animal health products need to be stored under specific conditions, explains Andrew Evans, retail director for Wynnstay. Unless they are kept at the right temperature and out of direct sunlight, their ability to provide the necessary levels of disease protection may be detrimentally affected. Farmers are therefore warned to be extremely cautious. Fraudulent sales of prescription only medicines are becoming increasingly commonplace and we urge farmers to remain vigilant and to treat any suspect products with caution. If there is any doubt concerning the quality or origin of any animal health products, farmers should contact their animal health rep or veterinary surgeon to ensure that their animals remain adequately protected. Wynnstay has full batch traceability for all of the missing goods and advises farmers not to buy any products that they suspect to be of dubious origin. Wynnstay is also working closely with the relevant authorities to trace the missing goods and has taken steps to ensure that all products sold through its stores are now protected with SmartWater technology. -Ends- Notes to editors: The Wynnstay Group, which is based in Llansantffraid, Wales, manufactures and supplies agricultural products and services for farmers across the UK.
